Dr. Samir Shah is a Consultant Hepatologist attached to Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre. After finishing M.D. in medicine from Grant Medical College, Bombay in 1982, he was selected to do a two-years degree course in Gastroenterology at the Christian Medical College, Vellore. He has been a member of the Editorial Board of Indian Journal of Gastroenterology and was elected as the Secretary of the Indian Association for study of the liver for the period 1995-1997.
He has been awarded the Hargobind Foundation Scholarship and has returned back after a one-year fellowship in Hepatology and Liver transplant at the Institute of Hepatology, University College London with Prof. Roger Williams. He has been the driving force to co-ordinate efforts to start a cadaveric organ transplant programme in the country and Mumbai in particular. He was involved with the first successful liver transplant in Mumbai. He is the founder member and the general secretary of the National Liver Foundation. He is a Council Member of “International Liaison Committee, Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL).
