Professor Mallath is the Dean-Academic of Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai and heads the Department of Digestive Diseases and Clinical Nutrition at the Tata Memorial Hospital. His current appointments includes: Convener, Gastrointestinal Cancer Working group at TMC, Vice-Chairman, Scientific Research Committee of TMC, Convener of the Board of Studies (Health Sciences) of Homi Bhabha National Institute and Honorary Senior Research Fellow in Clinical Pharmacology at Oxford University. His research interests are in Clinical Drug Trials in Digestive Cancers, Epidemiology of Digestive Cancers, and Clinical Nutrition.
Dr. Mallath earned his Medical Degree from Goa Medical College and the University of Bombay in 1982. After a residency in Internal Medicine at Goa Medical College, Goa and his did a 3-year Fellowship in Gastroenterology and Intensive Care at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. After a short training in Digestive Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York he joined the staff of Tata Memorial Hospital in 1990. He got trained in Cancer Epidemiology & Trials at Wolfson Institute of Preventive Medicine, Medical College of St. Bartholomew's Hospital and University of London.
Dr. Mohandas is member of over a dozen international and national organizations including the Indian Society for Cancer Research, American College of Gastroenterology, Indian and American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Society for Medical Screening, Indian, European and American Societies for Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition, etc. He has served as the President of the Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy of India (1994-95) and as Council Member of the Indian Society for Gastroenterology and Indian Society for Study of the Liver, and is a Scientific Advisory Member to European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society. He has received recognition for his research work including Young Investigator Awards at Indian, Asia-Pacific and World Congresses, Commonwealth Scholarship, ESPEN Award at Cannes, etc. He has 115 articles indexed in PubMed, and authored 34 book chapters. His group has presented more than 105 papers at various Indian and International Conferences and won several awards. Two of his research presentations having public health importance had selected for Press Review at the Digestive Diseases Week in 2004 and 2007.
